Autism and ADHD assessments

Assessments at Santai Psychology involve a comprehensive exploration of developmental history, current functioning, strengths, challenges, and lived experiences. We recognise that presentations can look quite different from one person to the next — and our assessments reflect that.
Autism assessments are conducted in accordance with current Australian clinical guidelines, including recommendations developed through the Autism CRC National Guidelines for the Assessment and Diagnosis of Autism.
Following completion of the assessment, a detailed written report is provided outlining findings, clinical formulation, conclusions, and recommendations.
The assessment process

What to expect

Assessments typically involve multiple components across one or more appointments. The process is thorough, collaborative, and designed to give you a clear and meaningful picture of your experiences.
The process may include
Psychologists are unable to prescribe medication. If you are interested in exploring medication as part of ADHD treatment, you will need to consult an appropriately qualified medical practitioner such as a psychiatrist.
If your primary goal is to obtain a diagnosis for the purpose of accessing medication, it may be worthwhile discussing options with your GP or psychiatrist first — depending on your circumstances, some medical practitioners are able to assess and diagnose ADHD directly.
It is also important to note that some psychiatrists may choose to conduct their own assessment before prescribing medication, regardless of a previous assessment completed by another professional.
While psychologists cannot prescribe medication, they play an important role in supporting individuals before, during, and after the assessment process. Psychological support can assist with:

Understanding and making sense of a diagnosis

Identifying strengths, challenges, and support needs

Developing practical strategies for managing ADHD or Autism

Improving emotional wellbeing and self-understanding

Addressing co-occurring concerns such as anxiety or low mood

Supporting adjustment at school, university, work, and in daily life

For many people, an assessment is only one part of the journey. Ongoing psychological support helps translate diagnostic information into practical and meaningful strategies that support long-term wellbeing.
Additional assessment types

Learning and intellectual assessments

Where concerns exist regarding intellectual functioning or specific learning disorders, a cognitive and educational assessment may be recommended through a psychologist who provides these specialised services. Please contact the clinic to discuss your needs.

NDIS-related assessment reports

Santai Psychology provides functional assessment reports for current clients where Autism is the primary disability and additional information is required to support NDIS applications or reviews.
Please note: eligibility for NDIS funding is determined solely by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). Completion of an assessment or report does not guarantee access to NDIS funding or supports.
